Two scarves in one. The Cocó is double-sided — one face in plush mohair, solid and cloud-soft against the skin, the other in a richly textured bouclé-style weave of interlocking colors. Wear it either way. Made by Mantas Ezcaray in the village of Ezcaray, La Rioja, Spain.

The Maker

La Rioja is known for its wine. Less known — but no less extraordinary — is what Cecilio Valgañón started there in 1930. In the mountain village of Ezcaray, where handloom weaving was already a cold-weather tradition, Valgañón founded Mantas Ezcaray and introduced mohair into the regional textile craft — bringing vibrant color and extraordinary softness to throws, blankets and scarves that soon found admirers far beyond Spain. Today his grandchildren run the same small operation, washing, dyeing and weaving by hand, using only wool from suppliers committed to sustainable practices. The result is what they've always made: pieces built to last a lifetime.
