Learn about the Artisan

Mulier Studio is Spanish artisan Silvia Durán's most personal and intimate project. Her sculptural candle workshop in the heart of Madrid is exclusively dedicated to explore the symbolic connection between wax as artistic medium and personal transformation.

Inspired by the geometric and organic shapes of primitive art as well as modern artists such as Brancusi or Isamu Noguchi and the spiritual teachings of Eckhart Tolle, Durán and her team work with wax, color pigments and aromas to produce one of a kind candles that are polished by hand as the last step of the process.

Manually sculpting each candle is a meditative experience that Durán explains as resembling the process of discovering your own light, an invitation that she extends to all of us when acquiring one (or more… who can resist the combination possibilities) of her statuesque creations.

As there are not two identical Mulier candles, there are not two identical people nor two identical personal journeys. There is neither a single way to use these sculptural candles, which are not only a source of light but function as decorative and aromatic pieces to add sensorial impact and narrative power anywhere you choose to place them.

Candle Care

To light the piece, we recommend using only a heat-resistant container or stand that can hold the liquid wax. Do not leave it lit for more than two hours at a time. When lit, do not leave it unattended and keep it out of reach of children and animals.

Because the pieces are irregularly shaped, the wick may burn more quickly in some places than others. If the flame is too strong, trim the wick slightly. If, on the other hand, the flame is suffocating, pour in some of the melted wax.

Virgin wax candles, due to the effects of time and temperature changes, may develop a thin, whitish coating. This is not a defect; it's a sign of the wax's quality and purity. To remove it, simply rub the candle gently with your hands or a dry cloth.
