Silvia Durán's Madrid workshop is devoted to a single question: what can wax become? Working from geometric and organic forms drawn from primitive art, she and her small team hand-sculpt each candle — polishing every surface by finish, never by machine.

For Durán, the process is inseparable from the object. Sculpting wax by hand, she has said, resembles the experience of discovering your own light. That intention carries into every piece.

No two Mulier candles are identical. They are sources of light, yes — but also objects to be placed, arranged, and lived with. Where you put one is part of the work.

These are hand-formed objects, not production candles — burn them accordingly. Use a heat-resistant surface or holder that can contain liquid wax. Limit each burn to two hours, never leave the flame unattended, and keep out of reach of children and animals.

Because each piece is irregularly shaped, the wick may burn unevenly. If the flame runs too strong, trim the wick slightly. If it begins to suffocate, pour a little of the pooled wax back over it.

Over time, you may notice a thin whitish film developing on the surface. This is bloom — a natural characteristic of virgin wax, meaning wax in its purest form, with no additives or hardeners. It is not a defect. It is evidence of what the candle is made of. To remove it, warm the surface gently with your hands or wipe with a dry cloth.
