Learn about the Artisan

A small workshop in the medieval Galician town of Allariz in northwest Spain is home to a unique blend of great craftsmanship and innovation. Founded by award-winning textile designer and creative thinker Inés Rodríguez, RiR & Co produces handmade fabrics weaved in the traditional loom using natural materials such as merino wool, linen and silk. The workshop is also a hub of innovation, where Inés dives into textile research and experimentation to create totally new fabrics conceived to solve problems and transform the experience, such as her weaves using milk fiber and wool for hypoallergenic blankets or her silk-based yarn to cover optical fiber in order to create luminescent textiles.

Inés collaborates with different universities and design schools to support Fashion students in their final degree projects, and gives talks and workshops around the country promoting crafts to other sectors within the fields of fine arts and culture. Back in front of her loom, Inés allows the nature of the Galician region and the heritage of ancient textile traditions to inspire modern yet timeless pieces that reflect her values of sustainability and respect for the process. Each thread on the loom is carefully weaved into a perfectly unique union of color, texture and technique, a metaphor of how Inés understands the world and our place in it when we let our talents thrive.
