The Maker

Piel de Mar is Lourdes' project — built on her mother's leather atelier in Gata de Gorgos, Alicante, and taken somewhere new. Before coming back to the workshop, Lourdes had a career as an engineer. When she returned, she introduced a new specialization: palm weaving, a craft the region has always been known for and that local artisans have practiced for generations. She combined that tradition with the leather expertise her mother's atelier was already built on, and her engineering background shapes how the two work together — in the structure, the proportions, the way each piece is built to last. The result is a women-owned workshop where two crafts meet, made by hand, by the community around it.

Why We Chose It
